Automotive (non-Ford) photographs collection, 1886-1970.

An artificial collection comprised of photographic material in a variety of formats and from a variety of sources. While the collection includes only non-Ford automobiles, researchers should note that there are a number of current Ford products represented (such as Mazda, Volvo, Lincoln, Land Rover, and Aston Martin). These images document time periods prior to Ford ownership. The collection is arranged by name of automobile or automotive manufacturer and includes photographs primarily of automobiles. There are also a few images of vans, trucks, and trailers and many of the folders contain images of automobile plants and dealers. In addition, for Oldsmobile, Cole, Packard and a few unidentified automobiles, there are a handful of engineering drawings and parts drawings. A majority of the photographs in this collection were part of an Edison Institute (The Henry Ford) library vertical file until the 1980s; others have been acquired since that time through donation or purchase.
